ADVICE NEEDED
Posted On 08/12/2008 01:34:23 by swelch

I visited a local truck driver training facility today...maybe the recruiter was having a bad day...who knows...anyway...I left feeling depressed and disappointed. He said they have a bad track record with females...they either don't finish training or decide driving isn't for them once they get their cdl...he went on mentioning bad situations....nasty, filthy truck stops...breaking down in a bad neighborhood...being away from home weeks on end...he didn't mention anything positive at all...if his outlook on trucking is always this negative maybe he is in the wrong line of work....

I'm currently studying to get my cdl...any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

you can take my advice or not but don't let any one stop you from following ur dreams i've been doing this for over 25 years and have seen alot of changes in this industry. don't let some recruiter stop you from that most of the old trashy truckstop's are long gone and as far as breaking down in bad neighborhood's it all depends on the equipment that ur driving and the company you drive for.about the only thing he did get right is the being away from home but again that all depends on the cvompany and there policy of home time

Thanks for the advice Ray! I'm still under contract till Aug of 2009, then I'll be free to go other places ... I didn't let his opinion stop me! I felt he had a bad attitude!!!
